Best Top Gear chapter Ever?

Top Gear is now one of the longest ever shows on the Bbc (the British Broadcasting Corporation) and rightfully so, as it is one of the shows still running on Tv today with real class and chronic appeal. The 3 presenter s (Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May) have a real sense of chemistry in the middle of them, and there is a set of great on-screen relationships that have provided many humorous television moments throughout the years for the viewers.

With many of the classic episodes now being repeated on the Uk channel naturally called 'Dave', I wondered to myself what the best ever Top Gear part was. In my understanding the best ever episodes are the ones where the team travels across a foreign country or another continent.

Harry And Davids

The first of which was when they bought 3 cheap cars and drove the entire width of Central Africa. This journey was both comical to watch and emotionally captivating, as you well wanted their tired old cars to make it across the entire continent and on to victory.

Another extremely memorable trip was when the gang drove the length of Vietnam (all the way up the Hoi Van Pass) on motorbikes. Despite the agenda being a car show, the gang adopted very well to driving motorbikes, although it did make for the funniest part ever (the scene where they kept buying increasingly large gifts for each other was one of the best ever).

Despite these, I feel that the best part ever was when they tried to destroy the Toyota pickup truck. For sheer amazement this part is the finest, and the way they it was filmed is a true testament to the film-making crew.

Best Top Gear chapter Ever?Final 'Huntley-Brinkley Report' on NBC / July 31, 1970 Video Clips. Duration : 3.95 Mins.

Chet Huntley and David Brinkley teamed in 1956 for NBC's 'Huntley-Brinkley Report,' the very first dual anchor national evening newscast. It dominated the ratings until the debut of 'The CBS Evening News With Walter Cronkite' in 1963. In this final broadcast, as Huntley retires, he and David say goodbye to each other for the last time. At the very same moment 'over on that other network,' CBS, Walter Cronkite was adding his own goodbyes to Huntley, saying that "a giant was leaving the industry." You can watch that clip at: www.youtube.com For you technical geeks, this was recorded in the video tape room of WTVJ-TV in Miami, FL on the air date above on what was then called 'quad,' or 2" video-tape. Over the years, I dubbed it first to 3/4" tape, then beta, then DVC pro and finally to DVD.

The Royal House of Windsor (9/10)

The Royal House of Windsor (9/10) Video Clips. Duration : 7.30 Mins.

Dr David Starkey concludes his epic story of our monarchy with a special programme on the history of the House of Windsor. Far from being stuck in the past, the story of the monarchy in the 20th Century has been one of re-invention. In the space of a few decades our Royal family changed its name, its image and the role it played in the life of the nation. It embraced new technology and found new ways to engage with the people. As David Starkey reveals, this was a course of action that would take the monarchy to some of its greatest moments of triumph, but also sowed the seeds of its near destruction. But the British Monarchy still soldiers on!

Jobs and Marriage - Enslavement Disguised As relaxation

This is so true and sad, but liberating when you realize it. When I wake up I often think:

This world is in reality a global enslavement motor that programs people to Think that they are free in order for them to cope with their servitude, and conditions people to Want it as well. The truth is, we are all slaves to the economic system and programmed with illusions that help us bear our enslavement.

Harry And Davids

The system treats us as economic resources and defines us by our economic functions (e.g. Workers, tax payers, consumers, etc.) rather than as human or spiritual beings. In short, we are simply a commodity to the system and groomed as such. And of course, we are programmed to want to thrive as "economic resources", not to complain about it or be needful of it. No free thought, in other words. You are supposed to "love the system".

Freedom, for the most part, is just a word, not an actual state of existence. The reckon people, especially Americans, believe that they have relaxation is simply because their minds are programmed to think that they do. You see, your slavemasters need you to be satisfied with your enslavement to keep you controlled. In order to do that, they give you choices in consumerism and in choosing your occupation. You are "free" to choose your form of slavery and vote for your puppet dictators.

Right when you step into grade school, you lose all your freedoms as you are totally controlled and given rules to abide by. You are taught to regurgitate data and to be obedient, as you are honed and groomed to come to be a slave in servitude to the system. You are told it's for your own good, and punished for disobedience. Social school is where your conditioning to come to be a robot begins.

First, you are programmed to Want to come to be enslaved by being conditioned to Want a job/career, which is essentially giving over control of your daily life to others. In doing so, you give up your relaxation without knowing it cause you are told that you are "free to work", which implies that it is You who wants it, not the system - a psychological sleight of hand indeed. Furthermore, you are convinced that "the purpose of your life is to work" and that's what you were born for, thus ingraining you with the "live to work" mentality. You are also conditioned to feel empty and incomplete without it. As a result, work becomes synonymous with relaxation to you.

If you think about it though, unless you are at the executive level, most jobs are technically positions of slavery, because you are giving over a large part of your day in servitude to a corporate body, society or enterprise that is structured in a hierarchical fashion. Technically, that is slavery. There's no way around it. But of course, the system tries to convince you that it's not by getting you to think that You are the one that wants it. But even if you don't, you have to anyway cause you need the money to pay your bills. Hence, either you want it or not, the employment enslavement is "forced" upon you by the system.

Overall, the system tries its best to make you a "happy slave" by repackaging slavery as freedom. This is a form of spin illusion that reverses the meaning of "slavery" and "freedom". For example, relaxation in America means "the relaxation to work and make money" which in other words means "the relaxation to choose your form of enslavement". And being free of this enslavement is to be a "miserable unemployed someone who is seeking a job", as defined by the system. This basically means that it is a bad thing not be a slave.

It's a play on words that turns truth into its opposite. And it's no separate than preachers telling Christians who have submitted to the fundamentalist laws of the Bible that they have been "set free from sin", or fascist dictators telling their populace that they've been "set free from chaos and disorder", etc. So in this case, when you turn into a corporate slave, you are "set free from unemployment".

Essentially, the system's false logic is that slavery = being "set free" from freedom. This is nonsensical of course, but you aren't meant to see it the way it in fact is. Instead you are meant to see the inverse of the way it in fact is. That's the scam and brainwashing. It's a first-rate form of propaganda where you divert attention from something by declaring it to be its opposite. And it has been used time and time again throughout history in all areas of life where mass control is needed. Thus it's no wonder that Michael Ellner stated:

"Just look at us. all is backwards. all is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the major media destroy information, and religion destroys spirituality."

Moreover, the system uses a barrage of methods to keep us in an internal state of fear and insecurity that causes us to crave structure and routine, due to our psychological insecurities, which enslavement to the system provides of course. Thus we are raised to want to be "tied down" to something (e.g. A job, house, marriage, single geographic location) on a long term basis. This is why most people do not seek adventure, new experiences or true relaxation of expression, and only a minority do.

One major outlet that the system uses to keep us in this internal state is the media of course, which permanently feeds us stories of terror, tragedy and crises. Their excuse is that "bad news sells" but that is just a cover. You are never told the real reckon for the rampant fear-mongering. Community also convinces you that being in a state of fear and paranoia is good for your protection. But in reality, the majority of our fears are baseless, unfounded or greatly exaggerated. (e.g. Terrorists everywhere, psycho killers everywhere, swine flu scares, etc.)

Another major formula the system uses is the other people around us, who are trained to keep us in line and in a state of conformity. This is productive because given a choice in the middle of the truth vs. Conformity to the group, most will choose the latter even if it means parroting a lie they know to be untrue. And of course, our internal state of fear and feebleness make it much more likely that we will conform as well. Thus, each of these controls are designed to reinforce each other.

Conformity is the fallacious belief that the views of the majority must all the time be right and the minority or dissenters all the time wrong. Therefore, it assumes one should adopt the beliefs of the majority in order to be "right". It is a mindless characteristic that most adopt and are conditioned to live by. However, many of the many thinkers, writers and intellectuals of the world have seen through the madness of such a belief and realized that the opposite is true. (e.g. Mark Twain, George Bernard Shaw, Eric Fromm, Frederich Nietzsche, Hl Mencken, Rd Lang, Marcus Aurelius, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Ayn Rand, Oscar Wilde, etc.)

Additionally, Community is set up with all sorts of stress, anxiety and worry to keep you in a constant state of "survival mode", which reinforces your fear state. And of course, money itself, which enslaves the world for unavoidable reasons and is totally artificial, is the lifeblood of the global enslavement system. There is no inquire that we are all slaves to money. But as conspiracy lecturer Alex Collier asks in his lectures, "Why do I have to 'pay' to be in a world I was born into?"

David Icke, a favorite conspiracy researcher and author, came to the same conclusion. In his book "Human Race Get Off Your Knees: The Lion Sleeps No More" he writes "the truth - that the world is a global enslavement motor and reality suppressor".

Though there are variations, essentially most people only have two choices - either come to be a robot... Or a bum. Not very inspiring. To find alternatives requires innovation and thinking face the box, but most cannot cause the system doesn't teach you to think for yourself.

Most people believe what they are told, and they are not told that the world is an enslavement system. Instead they are told that they were born to work, which is a virtue, and that if they study hard and work hard, they will make a lot of money and have a good life. But in reality, they end up slaving away their whole lives for money with some "pie in the sky" dream in their heads with minuscule or no time to enjoy any "good life". They never live fully or caress any true relaxation or recognize themselves. Instead they live in fear, worry and pressure their whole lives just to keep up an illusory facade under the programming of the system. In the end, it falls flat and they wonder what went wrong after they've lost most of their high-priced life years serving the system. By the time they realize it, it's too late. Such is the sad scam the system puts on you.

Now I am not trying to be negative here. The system is what it is. And no estimate of white washing or word plays will convert the core nature of it.

Another form of binding enslavement is marriage. people are conditioned to want it, even though it in fact makes no sense and is merely an artificial compact that unnaturally binds two people by oath. If you think about it, marriage is like swearing an oath to only eat vanilla ice cream for the rest of your life until you die, and never trying any other flavor. It is an unrealistic promise and unnecessary voluntary binding of oneself. (Not a wise idea at all) But people are conditioned to Want it and to feel empty and incomplete without it, so they do, even though it makes no sense. (Love isn't enough, so we must invoke an artificial enterprise compact in order to feel complete!) And of course, they are taught to see marriage as "being set free from the lonely single life".

In reality, if you love someone, that is all the reckon you need to be with them. Romantic love can be a wonderful, beautiful and natural thing that bonds and connects people, especially if it's coupled with synergy. There is no need to swear an oath or create a binding artificial enterprise compact to try to control our nature and life. Doing so in fact "kills the love" and turns it into an compulsion rather than a spiritual/emotional bond. It also creates an artificial bind which is a form of enslavement. But you are programmed with the belief that this oath and compact is a needful and natural thing.

"A man is incomplete until he is married. After that, he is finished." - Zsa Zsa Gabor

So, the two big areas of life - employment and marriage - are in reality forms of binding enslavement in which you give up your life and relaxation over to others. But you are made to Want and Need them. You are made to Want a job that ties you to one geographic location and puts your schedule under control of a managerial entity, which no sane awakened someone would want. And you are also made to Want to unnaturally tie yourself to an additional one someone for life until you die, never loving any other, regardless of what may happen, even though such a promise is totally unrealistic. And you are programmed to define all that as "freedom and the American dream".

An awakened someone realizes the folly of all this, sees that what every person wants (like the will of a hive mind) makes no sense, and realizes that all of this is the total antithesis of what it means to be free. But an unawakened someone believes the illusion and wants what they are programmed to want. To them, if Community says so and every person else is doing it, it must be good, normal and natural. Only the awakened someone realizes it's all a con full of lies, mind control, illusion, voluntary slavery and the giving up of one's life and freedom.

True relaxation means that you can do anything you want (for the most part at least) as long as you don't harm others, without the control and interference of others. But the commitment of employment and marriage take that away. There is no doubt about that. But we are Not conditioned to want true freedom. Instead, we are conditioned to Want enslavement by giving up control of our life, time and daily schedule to others. Yet we are Told that we have relaxation in America and that "freedom is what makes America great" when in reality we do Not have true freedom. It's a total lie that makes no sense and contradicts reality.

Think about it. Most Americans who are enslaved by employment and bound by marriage do Not have true relaxation because for the most part, since they Cannot do anything they want everyday without control and interference from others. In childhood, their life is controlled by their school system in the day and their parents at night. Then in adulthood, their life is controlled by their bosses, managers and spouses. Yet they Believe that they have freedom. Why? Because they are Told that they do! They are told that since no one named Adolf Hitler runs their government, that they can go to the voting booth, and that they have 20 flavors of bagels to choose from, etc. That they have freedom, even though their lives are controlled by others and they cannot do anything they want everyday! It's an insane hypocrisy and bizarro world. Yet most don't see it cause the system programs their minds not to see it but to see the opposite by redefining all and turning people into "happy slaves" who do not want true freedom.

Now if you agree with all this and want to know what you can do about it, my advice is this: Try to come to be self-employed. Or at least find ways to cut your expenses so that you can work part-time and at least have half the day to be truly free. This may sound hard, but if you remember that "Where there's a will, there's a way" you can find a way. Or you can join one of those self-sustaining eco-villages around the world, if you're into that sort of thing. If you can't do any of these things, at least be employed in something that you love, so that it does not feel like slavery.

There is a guy I know named Walt Goodridge who is very good at helping people turn their passion into profit to come to be self-employed. You can see his website, books, articles and interviews at PassionProfit.com To help you learn how to free your mind and life, overcome the Social programming traps and false assumptions ingrained into you, I highly recommend you read the late Harry Browne's eBook "How I Found True relaxation in an Unfree World." You can get it from HarryBrowne.org.

As for relationships, seek love if you want it. And if you find it, let that love itself keep you together if possible. There is no need for swearing an oath or creating binding lifetime contracts to keep you together against nature's will. Try to justify this to your partner if he/she is marriage-minded, and try to "deprogram" him/her as well. If they still don't agree, then only you can settle what's best for you. But for God's sake, don't call lie and call slavery "freedom" and relaxation "slavery".

Be glad though, that just by realizing all this, you've already taken the first step out of the matrix programming toward the liberation of your own mind, which is the starting of true freedom. So, even if you have to remain a bodily slave, at least your mind is free.

But if you don't agree with any of this, then good luck to you. I hope I've given you something to consider.

Always remember, as Frederich Neitzche said, "No price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."

Moradabad - The Brass City of India

Moradabad is one of the most industrially flourishing cities in India. It was set up by Prince Murad in 1600 Ad and hence it is called Moradabad. It is made up of two words, "Murad" and "Abad". Murad is the name of the Prince and Abad means setting up. So the city which is set up by Prince Murad is Moradabad.

Moradabad is situated on the banks of River Ram-Ganga which is a tributary of the Holy Ganges. The city is settled at a distance of 167 kilometers from the Indian National Capital i. e. New Delhi. The city has passed straight through the hands of discrete dynasties.

Harry And Davids

But over the years, it has gained fame for its sure brassware industry. It is said that Mohammad Yar Khan was the founder of this business who had come to this place from Afghanistan in 1860 and started the brassware manufacturing unit.

Moradabad is known for its decorative brassware the world over. It has the discrepancy of being the biggest exporter of brassware in the country. The city is one of the inherent cities for innumerable firm opportunities and forms a large center of trade in India. The brassware is exported to North America, and Europe. Due to the high level of manufacturing of brass ware in the town, Moradabad is often referred to as the Peetal Nagri meaning the Brass City.

Brassware is extensively produced in the town. But there are some families which are engaged in making decorative brassware which is sometimes plated with Lac or tin. The utensils are then engraved with intricate designs as per the ask of the clients.

There is a great range of products ready in Moradabad. One can select whatever from a brass utensil to the most exquisite decorative items. The utensils mostly consist of of mostly wares which are used for discrete rituals. These can consist of the Lota (Water Pot), Panchapatra (Ritual Plate), Simhasan or the seat used for placing the deity and also the Kanchanthaal (Flower Plate).

But the goods which has put Moradabad on the global platform is certainly the Art Metal work. The tradition of metal work started while the Mughal period and still remains a flourishing industry. Art Metalwork is a must buy for habitancy visiting this vibrant city. There is a great ask for the colored enameling and intricate engravings on the metal wares.

The art metal wares consist of dissimilar products like busts, decorative gift articles, clocks, statues and utensils. Metal wares designed and advanced on the Mughal art and depicting those times are in greater ask in the countries out of India. These consist of the Itardan(Perfume Spray), Gulabpash(Rosewater Sprinkler), Aftab (Wine or Sherbet Servers) and the noted Hookah.

The reckon they are being asked for so much lies in the intricate and beautiful exaggeration they have. These are very heavily embroidered which are one of the finest in the world and have an ample range of patterns.

Apart from the Brassware industry, Moradabad also excels in other handicraft industries. Most important among these is the Jewelry made out of horns and bones, kitchen ware/utensils, combs and wooden sticks.

The manufacturing business in Moradabad is also set up in some of the homes and these ancillary units help the bigger players in the market. Even though the commercial action in the city is a flourishing one, yet it is still too much labor oriented.

But in spite of it all, the Brassware business in Moradabad is a must see on the itinerary of habitancy visiting Uttar Pradesh.

Myths of Nfl Cheerleaders Unraveled

So there's tons of cheerleaders out there dancing on the field and we never bother to get to know them. All we do is just stare at them dancing, think 'oh they dance good, look good, typical cheerleaders' and move on without a understanding as to what literally goes behind the scenes of an Nfl cheerleader. Well, I am here to tell you that there is a lot more than meets the eye. All those movies you saw like "Bring it On" and those television shows that showed a bunch of drama queens as cheerleaders have got it all wrong.

Myth #1 - It's easy being an Nfl cheerleader.

Harry And Davids

Um. No. There is no way that it is easy being a cheerleader. So much goes into the auditions, that you're lucky to even make it into the squad in the first place. Hundreds of girls try out and you have to be in the top 3% to make it in the squad, no kidding. They all dance good, look good, are energetic, enthusiastic, and have a great personality on top of all that. After they get into the squad, it takes hours of convention roughly every day in order to get the Nfl dancing routines down. It gets worse when they have to dance in the icy cold, especially in the northern States (which some Nfl teams use as an excuse for not having a cheerleading team and yes not every Nfl team has a cheerleading squad). Face of the dances, they also have to show up for charity events, make guest appearances, do photo shoots, and sometimes even trip overseas to entertain our very own Us forces forces to keep their morale high. Whoever said being a cheerleader was easy obviously hasn't seen one at work.

Myth: Nfl Cheerleaders get to meet football stars and date them

Absolutely not. Nfl Cheerleaders are not allowed to "fraternize" with the players. That means no flirting, no personal relationships, no personal "friendships", or anyone that might imply a connection Face of the professional realm of the Nfl. Yes, they can interact a diminutive bit at charity events and guest appearances but typically, you'd have better luck getting to know the football stars as a janitor cleaning their locker rooms or being some sort of groupie. Cheerleaders going out with the likes of Tom Brady and Randy Moss? Forget about it.

Myth: Nfl Cheerleaders rack in the fame and fortune

How much do cheerleaders get paid in the Nfl? The sass to that question is to a game. Heck, there are times when they don't get paid at all. They have to show up at guest appearance, photo shoots, overseas performances for Us forces and all of that is most likely unpaid. Don't feel too bad for them. Some of them get out of cheerleading and find that a bunch of opportunities await them because of their Nfl cheerleading elite status. Teri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives was a San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush Cheerleader once and look where she is now. Production 5,000 an part and multiply that by 10+ episodes per season. Now who wants to be an Nfl cheerleader?

Myth: Nfl Cheerleaders are brainless and act like valley girls

Yes, Nfl cheerleaders are hot but who said you can't incorporate charm with brains? citizen tend to join together cheerleaders with light-headed valley girls who enjoy going shopping and being the drama queens. Well these cheerleaders aren't in high school anymore for one thing. Another thing is that these cheerleaders need to be mature and inspiring so that they can sass to the media. After all, they are an prominent aspect of the team's communal image.

Nfl cheerleaders deserve a better reputation. Sure there are a few black sheep out there but in general, the Nfl cheerleaders are good girls who do their best to achieve for us. The least we could do is show our appreciation. Don't forget they also conduce to the community in assorted charity events so they do help out on a local and national level. Let's show our withhold for them and give them the prestige they deserve.

The Harry Partch Collection, Volume 2 Best

Rate This Product :

The Harry Partch Collection, Volume 2 Overview

Harry Partch’s compositions of the 1940s—and to some extent his work in general—have remained until recently an unwritten chapter in the history of American music. And yet it was these very pieces—the collection of four works he would later collectively entitle The Wayward—that brought him to the attention of the New York musical world. His concert of these pieces for the League of Composers (April 22, 1944) established for him a small but permanent reputation as a musical maverick who had wandered off well-worn tracks and had developed a sort of lateral extension of his art, independently of any of the main circles of American music.

The musical starting point of the compositions of The Wayward is the inflections and rhythms of everyday American speech. From the beginnings of his mature output in 1930 Partch had been devoted to what he called "the intrinsic music of spoken words," and these four works capture something of the spontaneous musicality of the conversations of the hoboes he befriended during the Depression. In their original form these pieces used only the small collection of instruments Partch had built or customized by 1943: Adapted Viola, Adapted Guitar, Chromelodeon, and Kithara. The versions recorded here are all later reworkings, sometimes with only small changes (as in the case of San Francisco), and sometimes involving a substantial amount of recomposition (as in the case of U.S. Highball).

The final work on this disc dates from twenty years later than the compositions of The Wayward, and represents one of the high points of Partch’s later instrumental idiom. And on the Seventh Day Petals Fell in Petaluma was composed in Petaluma, California, in March–April 1964, and revised at various times and places until the completion of the final copy of the score in San Diego in October 1966. It marks a radical departure from the theater works he had written at the University of Illinois in the early 1960s, and shows a renewed concentration on technical innovation and on fusing his activities as composer and instrument-builder within the context of a single composition. Newly remastered.

Johnny Cash - The first time ever I saw your face

Johnny Cash - The first time ever I saw your face Video Clips. Duration : 3.90 Mins.

"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is a 1957 folk song written by political singer/songwriter Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger, who was later to become his wife. At the time the couple were lovers, although MacColl was married to someone else. The song entered the pop mainstream when it was released by Peter, Paul and Mary (Album: See What Tomorrow Brings, 1965), and was later recorded by Roberta Flack, in 1972. The Flack version was much slower than the original: an early solo recording by Seeger, for example, clocked in at two and a half minutes long, whereas Flack's is more than twice that length. It was subsequently covered by numerous other artists. "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" has been covered by numerous artists such as Joe and Eddie, Elvis Presley, George Michael, Marianne Faithfull, Kate Havnevik, the Kingston Trio, Harry Belafonte, June Tabor, the Chad Mitchell Trio-Mike Kobluk solo, Gordon Lightfoot, Vern Gosdin, Shirley Bassey, Steven Houghton, Bert Jansch, Maria Taylor, The Easy Club, Peter, Paul and Mary, We Five, Johnny Cash, The Chi-Lites, José Carreras, Michael Sweet, Jeffrey Gaines, Isaac Hayes, Nana Mouskouri, Bradley Joseph, Joanna Law, Richard Marx, Alison Moyet, Stereophonics & Jools Holland, Mel Tormé, Vanessa L. sublime British Authors - Ten Best-Loved

Which renowned British authors made it to The Big Read? A search for conducted in 2003 by the Bbc to impart the Uk's best-loved book? What novels are they renowned for? And which of their books were in the Top 200 list?

There are a few things to consider, though, if you want to enjoy reading the novels written by the best-loved, renowned British authors. First, settle where your interests lie. You may be concerned in contemporary novelists, or maybe you are more intrigued by excellent writers? Works of English literature originating prior to World War Ii is thought about by most to be classical in nature, whereas novels written during or after that war could be called contemporary fiction. An example of a excellent writer would be Chaucer and Ernest Hemingway is a contemporary.

Harry And Davids

Another consideration might be which genres interest you most. Loosely defined these fall into ten categories: action-adventure, crime, detective, fantasy, horror, mystery, romance, science fiction, thriller or western. Depending on what you find inviting and that which grabs your attention, this can be an important factor when contemplating reading novels by an author you are as yet unfamiliar with.

You also need to understand the universal themes linked with the writing of fictional work; they contain Imagination, Identity, Conflict, Love, Humour, Belonging, Time, Faith and Place. Be aware that many novels revolve colse to one or more of these themes and that some themes can be the focus of just one book. One author should not be understanding of as the quintessential romanticist, humourist, or even imaginative writer as each author often considers a mixture of themes and complex ideas when creating a novel so think exploring these concepts before choosing to 'pigeon-hole' specific writers with a singular theme or genre.

Here are ten randomly premium authors from the books nominated in The Big Read.

  • John Ronald Reuel Tolkien - The winner was absolutely Lord of the Rings by this fantasy writer. Tolkien's The Hobbit also made the Top 100. Other works of Tolkien contain The Silmarillion.

  • Terry Pratchett - Britain's comic fantasy author had fourteen of his titles in that list: Mort, Good Omens, Guards! Guards! Night Watch, The Colour of Magic, Small Gods, Reaper Man, Wyrd Sisters, Hogfather, Men At Arms, Thief of Time, The Fifth Elephant, The Truth and Witches Abroad.

  • Joanne K. Rowling - A fantasy writer of Harry Potter fame was someone else novelist with four titles making the grade: Harry Potter And The Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter And The chamber Of Secrets and Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban.

  • Jacqueline Wilson - someone else novelist not to be ignored, a writer of children's books; also with fourteen titles of distinction: The Story of Tracy Beaker, duplicate Act, Vicky Angel, Girls In Love, The illustrated Mum, The Dare Game, Bad Girls, Lola Rose, Girls In Tears, Sleepovers, Secrets, Girls Out Late, Dustbin Baby and The Suitcase Kid. Wilson's novels are typically realistic stories about contemporary British children facing problems in their daily lives. In 2005 this writer was announced as the Children's Laureate.

  • Charlotte Bront - Three of the five Bront sisters became romance writers. Charlotte's Jane Eyre made the Top 21.

  • Emily Bront - Emily's Wuthering Heights also made the Top 21 but alas Anne's Agnes Grey missed the boat! For a family plagued with illness these sisters were remarkably successful.

  • Charles Dickens - These seven Dickens' masterpieces were given a 'thumbs up!' Great Expectations, David Copperfield, A Christmas Carol, A Tale Of Two Cities, Bleak House, The Pickwick Papers and Oliver Twist. Surrounded by other works he is remembered also for two of his other major contributions to literature: The Life and Adventures of Nicolas Nickleby and The Old Curiosity Shop. Besides specialist Twist the likes of such characters as Ebenezer Scrooge, Fagin, Mrs. Gamp, Charles Darnay, Micawber, Abel Magwitch, Pecksniff, Miss Havisham and Wackford Squeers will doubtless live on forever through his books.

  • Lewis Carroll - Carroll's Alice's Adventures In Wonderland, made it to the Top 100, inspired by a young girl named Alice Liddell, is among the books recommended. Other works from Carroll contain through The Looking-Glass and Jabberwocky.

famed Tv Law Shows

There are abundance of Tv shows that highlight lawyers in one capacity or another, but not many that focus on a group of characters that all deal with the legal field. So what shows have focused colse to the law? What shows have featured not one, but an whole cast of lawyers and judges that daily dealt with the law? Which ones did it well and are the most memorable?

Ally McBeal
While at first descry it could be easy to forget that this show was about lawyers, that was in fact the profession of all of the main characters, and there were often parallels in the middle of the cases they were arguing and the events in their personal lives. Unlike many shows, Ally McBeal was unusual in that it used the legal setting in a comedy series as opposed to a drama.

Harry And Davids

Night Court
If Ally McBeal was unusual, then it could be argued that Night Court was groundbreaking. A comedy set in a late night court room where the judge was as much of a character as any of the criminals being brought before him took the legal setting and had fun with it. Throw in the always hilarious John Larroquette as a lecherous prosecutor and you have a dry, witty comedy that was a staple on Nbc for five seasons.

Jag
This legal show was unique because it dealt with military lawyers as opposed to civilian ones. Granted, the main character being a previous Navy fighter pilot added an lively twist since he wasn't your mean Jag lawyer, but the Uniformed Code of military Justice (Ucmj) also added another twist as there are some differences in the middle of a military court martial and a civilian trial.

The Practice
A legal drama about a small Boston law firm, it spawned the more light-hearted Boston Legal, and occasionally crossed over with David E. Kelley's other legal show, Ally McBeal. The show was a launching point for Dylan McDermott's career and was very regarded by the awards show, which commonly nominated it for discrete drama awards.

La Law
Featuring Harry Hamlin, Susan Dey, Corbin Bernsen, Jimmy Smits, and Blair Underwood, to name a few, the show combined comedy and drama in a way that was typical of the late 80s and early 90s. The show dealt with touchy subjects like abortion, racism, domestic abuse, and even gay rights.

Matlock
Starring Andy Griffith, the character of Ben Matlock was a down to earth defense attorney in Atlanta, Georgia with a knack for getting an acquittal for his clients at trial, commonly by getting the real perpetrator of the crime, commonly murder, to confess on the stand. He was also known for wearing a light grey suit to nearly every trial during the show's run.

Perry Mason
To many it's the quintessential legal series. The show lasted nearly a decade and spawned thirty made for Tv movies, with 26 of them starring Raymond Burr in the iconic role of Perry Mason, the role he played on television as well.

Like Matlock, Perry Mason was a defense attorney that was known for proving his clients innocent. Unlike Matlock, he tended to prove their innocence during the first hearing phase of the trial, in part because the network didn't want to have to pay twelve extras to be jurors.
